We consider the nature and structure of environmental geology, which is a new, actively emerging scientific field. Emphasizes that some composite part (paleoecology, geoetika, etc.), usually within it are not specified. Statement of the main objectives of science, among whom must be a forecast of natural disasters.

Analyzed the main negative environmental impacts that are possible with the development of non-conventional hydrocarbons - shale gas, coal gas deposits of gas hydrates. It is shown that they are more negative than the common development of natural gas, oil and coal.
